Visit Pont-Croix, Brittany
Pont-Croix is a small town, north-east of Audierne and near the coast in the Finistère department at the western end of Brittany. It is an attractive town, with numerous traditional buildings and features, and very pleasant to explore.
Exploring Pont-Croix
The highlight in Pont Croix is the Collegiale Church of Notre-Dame de Roscudon. The church, combining elements of roman and gothic architecture, dates from the 13th century. The tall spire dominates the skyline of the town and the facade features impressive 'lacework' stone carvings, while the inside has a decorative altarpiece and other figures and a painted ceiling.
The market place and town centre are at the top of the hill, around the Collegiate with its pretty gardens.

There are numerous impressive houses to be seen in Pont-Croix, from small workers cottages to impressive grand townhouses, dating from the 15th to 18th centuries, also various small attractive features (fountains etc) to enjoy.
See also the Saint-Vincent Chapel - this was only built in the early 20th century but successfully incorporates historical roman and gothic influences in its design.
Explore the labyrinth of narrow passages around the collegiate, with flowers and greenery peering over the top of ancient walls, then from the small square in front of the church follow the steep cobbled streets (Petite Rue Chere and Grande Rue Chere) down the hillside to the Goyen river below.
The River Goyen below Pont-Croix is crossed by a fine bridge adjacent to an old mill, and the lavoirs (ancient wash-houses) can also be seen.
The Museum of Cap-Sizun Life contains some interesting artefacts and is situated in one of the most attractive 16th century houses in Pont Croix.
