Visit Lacanau, Aquitaine

Lacanau (and the resort of Lacanau Ocean) are located on the coast to the north of Arcachon, north-west from Bordeaux, on the west coast of the Medoc peninsula.

The beach is 14 km long, great for all the family, and for a variety of watersports - like many of the beaches along this part of the Atlantic, Lacanau is popular with surfers and an annual world class surfing competition is also held here. The beach at Lacanau ocean is also exceptionally attractive, of fine sand and backed by dunes

Lacanau is a pleasant place to stay, a clean modern resort with the focus of course on outdoor activities, sports, and relaxation. Of the numerous resorts along the Cote d'Argent, Lacanau is also among the most popular and most visited - during one tour of the region in mid-May several of the smaller resorts were very quiet but Lacanau was already very busy.

Behind the beach and dunes, Lacanau itself is pretty much as you would expect a holiday town to be with a main pedestrianised street of cafes, bars and souvenir shops along with all 'normal' facilities, and a nice atmosphere for a stroll.

Activities near Lacanau Ocean

If you want some time away from the beach, or if the waves are a bit too big for the children, there is also a very large lake between Lacanau and Lacanau Ocean, for sailing, windsurfing, and with a couple of lake beaches.

Because of the lake and forest setting, Lacanau is well placed for walking, nature hikes, cycling etc - there are numerous marked walks and cycle paths in the region, and horse riding is also available.

There are also an 18 hole golf course and two 9 hole golf courses close to hand in attractive settings for golf enthusiasts (i'm not a golfer but the course in the forest above Lacanau looked evry picturesque!). For those of you wanting to learn to surf there are courses available at Lacanau
